The melodic traditions of Turkmenistan ar combined with non-eastern music influences by Ashkhabad. With its commixture of such Middle Eastern instruments as serp, nagara, taragat and dutar and western classical instruments including fiddle, genus Viola and violoncello, the mathematical group creates a sound that recalls the cinematic euphony of Egypt and India.

Centered about piano accordion player Kurban Kurbanov and vocalist Atabai Tsharykuliev, Ashkhabad takes their identify from their site of source, the das Kapital city of Turkmenistan, placed in the defect plains of western Turkistan nigh the foothills of the Elburz Mountains.

Ashkhabad's debut album, "Metropolis Of Love", released in 1993, united Turkmenistan musicians including Khekberdy Allamuradov (serp, dep and nagara), Sabir Rizaer (clarinet, percussion, soprano sax, serp and nagara), Gassan Mamedov (fiddle) and Bernd von Ostrowski (bass, acoustic bass) and London-based musicians including David DeFries (fluegelhorn), Caroline LaVello (violoncello), Jacelyn Pook (genus Viola) and Sonia Slang (fiddle). Liner notes for the album were written by Peter Gabriel.

Christopher Just's "I'm a Disco Dancer (And a Sweet Romancer)" became a huge strike and helped build the International Deejay Gigolos mark as peerless of the more interesting techno labels of its time. The original release (Gigolo 004) was followed by a remix EP (Gigolo 008), and then various more remixes were commissioned for even more commercial success, the most remarkable being by Norman Cook. None of the other Christopher Just releases for labels such as Cheap and Petra were closely as successful.

Condoleezza Rice Meets Kiss And Then Tells All

Condoleezza Rice, America’s Secretary of State, said she was “thrilled” to meet the members of the rock band Kiss.

The Secretary of State met the band yesterday (May 29th) as they signed autographs for fans at the Sheraton Hotel in Sweden.

Rice, who was in the country on political business, told reporters at an international conference on Iraq that “it was really fun to meet Kiss and Gene Simmons”.

Rice said she was personally invited to go and met the band after she had finished dining with the Swedish Foreign minister.

Despite never seeing the band in concert, the politician said her favourite Kiss song was ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’.
